Grand Theft Auto 5 will release on PlayStation 4 and the next-generation Xbox “eventually”, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter has predicted.

Speaking to Gamertag Radio about whether he thought Rockstar’s crime epic would see a release on next-gen consoles, Pachter said: “Eventually. Not at launch.

“If you go back to the PlayStation 3 E3, the 06 E3, they showed Red Dead Redemption, remember? What year did that bad boy come out? 2010? It only took four years, and it was shown, it was shown during a launch event. So that’s about the pace I think Rockstar is on. I think Rockstar will have a game before the PS5.”

Pachter isn’t the first industry analyst to predict a next-gen release for GTA 5.

Earlier this month, Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz speculated that Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two “may have plans to eventually publish GTA V on the next set of consoles” to lessen the impact next-gen console sales could have on DLC planned for the 360/PS3 version.

Rockstar has currently only confirmed GTA 5 for release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In addition to a next-generation release, a PC version is speculated to be in development as well.

GTA 5 releases on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17, 2013. PlayStation 4, which was revealed by Sony last week, is due for release this Christmas.
