Development on Grand Theft Auto 5 is complete, Rockstar Games has announced, adding that it is "deeply disappointed by leaks and spoilers" appearing online ahead of the game’s official release.

"We're pleased to confirm that Grand Theft Auto V has officially gone gold and we're now preparing the game for release on September 17th for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360," Rockstar wrote on its official website.

"Unfortunately, as many of you may already know, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft Auto V through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTAV assets leading to leaked information and media from the game appearing online."

It continued: "As you can imagine, we are deeply disappointed by leaks and spoilers being spread in advance of the game's launch. GTAV represents years of hard work by many people across the world, and we all couldn't be more excited to finally share it with you properly this September 17th."

Rockstar adds that it still has more to reveal on the game between now and GTA 5’s release, and calls for fans not to discuss spoilers on its official website.

Rockstar’s announcement follows Sony's apology to the publisher for the leaks that occurred as a result of the game being made available to download early on PlayStation Store.

Some users were able to hack into the game’s files and upload audio assets to the internet, resulting in spoilers being spread online.

The game is not playable without an encryption key, however – something one modder claims will become available once a disc-based version of GTA 5 leaks.

GTA 5 launches officially on September 17.

Have looked through a few of the leakes, I couldn't resist!. I didn't see any spoilers, or spoilers in my eyes but from what I have seen, this game is going to be one hell of a game, the gameplay looks amazing, the short videos I have seen were amazing, the characters you DONT play look great, and there is a lot of typical GTA humour.

Personally Gta v has gone on for so long, since November 2011 in fact and to be honest, the excitement is really hitting home, watching these leakes has made me even more excited and I can guarantee every GTA fan out there that this is one hell of a game and that it is very apparent Rockstar games has gone to all lengths to make it the best it can be!

I can't wait!

I personally would prefer a PC version, just thinking about where I'm headed in the future (also buying a PC is probably more in my future than a console, because GIS programmes.)
Let's just pretend the spoilers never happened. I'm trying hard to ignore them anyway.

EDIT: It's no longer capslock Friday.

Apparently someone got the ending audio, that's what annoys me the most.
