The Buzz: Forget DLC, could the next instalment in the GTA franchise be hitting stores this year?
According to Game Informer's Loose Talk rumours section (reported by PSU), Rockstar North is hard at work on the next Grand Theft Auto game, with a release set for holiday season 2009.
"We're not talking about new DLC or a collection of previously available DLC, we're talking about a full retail game," explains Game Informer. "We expect this title to follow the suit of previous GTAs and use a subtitle such as GTA: San Andreas, etc. Tokyo might be a possible setting for the game, but details are non-existent at this time."
While initially this does sound like wishful thinking, back when Grand Theft Auto 3 released Rockstar managed to get GTA: Vice City out the door 12 months later. Rockstar has also favoured holiday release dates, having launched eight GTA titles in October (GTA4 was also originally intended for an October 2007 release). An October 2009 release would allow Rockstar around five/six months longer than was required for Vice City.

I played this game waaayyyy too much, lol.
I know what we really need, is a san andreas map in the same graphics as GTA IV, but the game play of the original San Andreas. LOTS more clothes than GTA IV, they were LAME, everything the same as the original SA but better graphics, new story line, ect. Perhaps a mexican imigrant comes to the U.S and is illegal, gets across the border into L.A (san andreas) and basially gets involved in the mexican mafia, struggles to get his family into the u.s, as drug smugglers in mexico have wanted him gone or him and his family will be dead due to the coccaine trade. He struggles to make a living on the streets, get his family safely to america, maybe has a son thats back in mexico??? rough attempt at a story line, just as long as theres no asian characters it be good.

Rockstar North created a game never seen before. From the touch of a button (The Playstation 2)there were Hydrolic cars, Bigfoot, Area 51 and Hydra Jets were at your gaming disposal. Rockstar was at it's peak. However i felt let down by Grand Theft Auto IV, it was a great game no doubt the graphics were superb it's still fun a year later it did everything asked of it but just one thing; it was boring, dull, dreary. Exciting for the first time jumping of the boat to great your long lost cousin Roman but after a while I personaly felt tierd of the same old dark sky that hung over liberty city. It lacked excitement it wasn't fun unlike it's counterpart San Andreas.
I propose that if Rockstar and Rockstar North combined the madness of San Andreas and the state of the art technology and graphics of Grand Theft Auto IV they could create a game that would blow the gaming world away.

An international setting with a selection of maps for a few different countries could sure breath new life into the GTA series. It would offer the writers more ammunition for ideas and expand on the gameplay aspects and mission based play.
Of course I expect 2009 is a bit optimistic.
Whatever they do, It's a must for me.
