Grand Theft Auto IV News

For:PS3  Also On: Xbox 360PC Release Date: 28 April 2008

Full-screen option not available in Xbox 360 version.

In the process of making our GTA 4 comparison video we've noticed one major difference between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game - there is no full-screen video mode for in-game TV in the Xbox 360 version.

We're not sure why - maybe it's because the video files could be stored in higher quality on the Blu-ray disc - but there is an option to watch TV shows in full screen (well, as near as) in the PS3 version of GTA 4. This feature is missing from the Xbox 360 version, with the player forced to view what's on the box in a small viewing area.

It's not a massive blow to the Xbox 360, but some of the short TV shows are certainly worth a look and we'd much rather watch them in full screen rather than strain our eyes viewing the smaller Xbox 360 version.

Look out for our full comparison very soon, but in the mean time head over to our 10/10 GTA 4 review.

New stuff to check out

I hate the 360 vs PS3 gripes. I understand some people can't afford a PS3, so they feel alienated and bash it. Look I am lucky enough to own both, or I was. I experienced the red rings of death 4 times. The last time MS wanted me to pony up MORE money to buy another console. It's no secret MS rushed the console to market and now everyone is suffering from it that owns one. As for the idiot that referenced the single logic processing... do you even know how a CPU works? Do you realize that the heat put out by the PS3 is substantially less than the EXACT same chip base developed for MS? I hate when 13 y/o kids get on these forums and rant about stupid things rather than giving a decent review. Well now I've had my time on the soap box, go ahead kids... your turn.

Riiiiight Mike, Jimi and Mr. Nice.....

GTA series has always had so-so graphical power, why? BECAUSE IT'S A FREAKIN' MASSIVE GAME! they modeled every street, every building, every sign, every car, every human, EVERYTHING, a huge city that's alive and breathes like no other series before or since (okay maybe Mafia). Graphics are an important part of this kind of immersive gameplay and they do deliver. Take a look at the previous games and tell me this isn't a MASSIVE step up graphically.

I agree with Steve and Unknown. GTA has never been about groundbreaking graphics. They've always just been about a damn good game play experience. Sure GTA4 doesn't look as beautiful as other next gen games. But the game is still up to par with them.

it's not fault of one console or the other that the graphics aren't spectacular
gta has never been an innovator in the visual department, and that goes back to last generation

Mr.Nice, Your a total Idiot.

Oh yeah course it can run on a PS2. Sony Fanboys pah. have fun with your 8 core CPU's that can only be logically accessed one at a time.

hmmm whats more powerful, 8 cores one at a time. or 3 cores all at once?

You tell me.

Clearly developers dumbed down this game to run on the 360. Why? $$$$$$ microsoft has deep pockets. This game could run on ps2. Most game developers are waiting for the 360 to die, Ps3 will still have plenty of power for amazing games, after this happens. Greedy game developers want every dime they can get.

What is this "full screen" means and where it is? I have a FullHD and I don´t understand why IGN gave a 10 to graphics because this is the worst graphics I ever saw in my PS3. It´s a great game like the others GTA´s but the crap is the same - GRAPHICS!!!!!

I love those shows...

That is weird... There are 2 360 versions and 2 PS3 versions in my house... I will have a look and maybe brag a little bit. I am starting to wish PS3 had DLC now though. It's such a great game.
