Sony has told PlayStation fans that the recent raft of high profile releases, including Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, SingStar and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, is "only the beginning of an ongoing software avalanche for PS3".

In a post on the official US PlayStation blog, Scott Steinberg, VP of Product Marketing, pointed towards upcoming PS3 exclusives LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, MotorStorm Pacific Rift and Resistance 2 as evidence of his claim.

He said: "With highly anticipated titles such as Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Grand Theft Auto IV and SingStar and with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, this is only the beginning of an ongoing software avalanche for PS3 that includes titles such as LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, MotorStorm Pacific Rift and Resistance 2 that only PS3 owners will be able to exclusively enjoy. We look forward to your feedback on Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots."

Steinberg added that the PS3's Blu-ray technology had allowed MGS4 developer Konami to deliver "more cutting-edge graphics, more expansive gameplay and more surround sound".

"Thanks to PS3's Blu-ray technology, this is the biggest Metal Gear Solid yet and sets a new benchmark in the gaming industry as the first PS3 game developed on a dual layer Blu-ray disc. This means the Konami team is able to deliver more cutting-edge graphics, more expansive gameplay and more surround sound. Add a DUALSHOCK 3 controller into the mix and you'll find yourself right in the middle of the action," he said.

Steinberg also encouraged US PS2 owners to upgrade to a PS3 by taking advantage of the MGS 4 PS3 bundle.

How do you feel about the PS3 in 2008? Are you a PS2 owner considering upgrading for MGS4? Let us know in the comments section below.

I actually took the advantage of the bundle, and the graphics were totally awsome, I have never played mgs only the psp version which I thought was lame (strategy, trading cards) but yesterday as soon as I installed the game was impressed with the neat and detailed graphics, specially if you are playing in a 50" HDTV. Its sick!

"MGS4 is the first PS3 game developed on the Blu-Ray disk?" What in the hell have I been playing HD-DVD discs! Need to clarify that statement. I played all last night and am totally blown away. Great addition to any PS3 collection!

I got a PS2 2 months ago, and they gave me the option of upgrading it so i'm getting the 80GB MGS4 PS3 Bundle in July, and it's gonna be AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!
Metal Gear Solid is one of the best games, if not the best game, avalible for the PS3, and overall every console. The PS3 is on its way to becoming the top console, if there are a lot of good exclusives coming out, which there are.

Gazbin, it is backwards compatible now, well for basically all the ps2 games you'd want to play. And trust me, when you get a ps3 you won't be wanting to play ps2 games anytime soon!

i've just been playing mgs4 for about 4 hours now? taken two breaks and im knackered, its got me totally hooked. The cut scenes are long, but well worth it as they arent boring. I cant wait to get online as i havent done that yet, but if anyone hasnt got this game and owns a ps3, they need shooting

Got my PS3 on launch day and for a while there the titles available were pretty dung bar the odd glimmer. Now I've had about 14 games in just over a year and the majority of them have been exclusives, all of which have impressed me. Especially Uncharted, motorstorm and now MGS. Quite happy I waited for a PS3 now instead of getting an xbox when the ps3 was delayed until March last year. It was expensive i'll admit but I didn't mind paying, that's what student loans are for.
