God of War's 'Bros Before Hos' Trophy changed to 'Bros Before Foes'
Sony Santa Monica acknowledges it was offensive to some members of its community.
Controversial God of War: Ascension trophy, Bros Before Hos, is to be patched out of the game and replaced with Bros Before Foes, Sony Santa Monica has told Joystiq.
The patch should be ready and waiting when the game launches.
The Trophy is earned following a cutscene after Kratos beats down a Fury, one of several female antagonists in the game.
"We have created and will soon push out a patch for God of War: Ascension that alters the title of one of the game Trophies. The text was offensive to some members of our community and impacted their enjoyment of the game," Sony Santa Monica's statement explained. "We are endlessly committed to ensuring that our community can fully enjoy the experiences the team has created. As such, we've addressed the feedback and amended the Trophy in question."
God of War: Ascension is available today in the US and on Friday here in the UK – see what we thought in our God of War: Ascension review.

I get that the phrase itself can be seen as sexist, and ultimately it REALLY doesn't matter. (If there was an actual artistic reason to not change it, I would hope that Santa Monica Studios would stand behind their decision.) But, it is somewhat indicative of the current state of games media that something like this is pounced on when we seem to have no problems with a "Widow Maker" achievement/Trophy in Tomb Raider. I would expect calls of misandry on that one, if I suspected there was even one games writer who knew the word existed.
