thatgamecompany, the award-winning developer behind Journey and Flower, is to go totally independent.
As reported by Develop, Jenova Chen and co have managed to raise $5.5m with the help of venture capital firm Benchmark Capital.
"The intent of the investment is to provide the resources for TGC to remain independent, so they can innovate with complete autonomy from the pressures of platforms and publishers," said Benchmark's Mitch Lasky.
In plain English, what he means is that thatgamecompany will be able to make games for anyone it desires. Which is good news if you're an Xbox 360 owner.
Flow, Flower, and Journey, the studio's first three games, were PlayStation exclusives.
