While the new, lower cost slimline PS3 proved a success in Japan, helping sales of the console reach a record 150,000 units in one week, the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy XIII is expected to see sales rise even further.

Hirokazu Hamamura, president of Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, has said he expects the PS3 to sell around 500,000 units over the year end sales period, a surge brought on by the popularity of Final Fantasy XIII which will launch on December 17.

Sony and Square Enix will be helping non-PS3 owners to enjoy Final Fantasy XIII by selling a special PS3 bundle which includes the game and a slim PS3.

More people have a 360 than a PS3... its simple. Considering that, the 360 version will probably sell more. But over the last two weeks the PS3 has sold over 150k each week. It is doing VERY well, and its doubtful really that Final Fantasy XIII will increase the PS3 sells by 500k consoles.

Depending on how long i'd have to wait for the 360 version, this is the only thing that will make me consider buying a PS3. So if there are any others of like mindset then i'd think its fair to say their predictions aren't far wrong.

I think it would generate around 500,001 units.
