Platform holder says the PS3 leads in Japan, Europe and has the momentum in North America.
Speaking to MTV Multiplayer, Peter Dille, Vice President, Sony Computer Entertainment of America, has played down the importance of losing Final Fantasy XIII exclusivity on PS3, stating he believes PlayStation is still the home of the Final Fantasy franchise.
"What you have with Final Fantasy XIII is a lot like what they've paid for with GTA. It's not an exclusive on their platform. It's now a cross-platform game," said Dille. "I think if you look at how GTA behaved in the marketplace and how it drove - or didn't drive - either console, that's what I'm talking about. Consumers responded to GTA on the PS3 just as they did on the 360. And it becomes a bit of a jump ball. But it didn't rise the tide for them."
He continued: "I think if you fast forward to when Final Fantasy XIII comes out I think you're going to have millions of people who grew up playing Final Fantasy on the PlayStation playing it on a PlayStation 3. They spent a lot of money, I'm sure, to get Final Fantasy onto the 360 but at the end of the day it's on our platform as well."
Dille then went on to highlight the importance of a true platform exclusive and in a roundabout way confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII coming to Xbox 360 will hurt the PS3.
"Let's look at what happens when you have Metal Gear Solid on your platform ... when the NPD numbers come out ... I think you'll see the value of what a real exclusive title does and how it raised the bar for PS3 versus 360," he explained.
On the subject of exclusives, Dille said that if third-party publishers want a global return on their investment PS3 is the only option.
"... if you look at the global footprint, PlayStation 3 dominates in Japan where the 360 is really irrelevant. In Europe, the PlayStation 3 is already past the 360. And in the United States you have a dogfight. You've got PlayStation 3 and 360 going at it and we've swung the momentum our way outselling the 360 during the first half of the year," said Dille. "So back to the third-party community, they're looking at what's going on, they're realigning their development resources to exploit PS3 and I think they understand that if they want to have a global return on their investment, PlayStation 3 is the only place they're going to get it."

dille seems to be missing something; while i only buy and support sony; it does make complete business sense to go mutiplatform for 3rd party games. you can only benefit from it. even if ps3 wins can you imagine how many millions more can be made say mgs4 was mutiplatform. plus its not fair to gamers who either dont want or cant afford a ps3 at this point in time. peter seems to lose sight of that!

Problem is, Sony, is that you aren't the dominant platform in any of your territories--the Wii and 360 are, save for Japan.
Perhaps if Sony would focus less on soundbites and acting like they didn't get the stuffing kicked out of them at E3, and more on pumping out quality games, then they wouldn't have to parade around like a forlorn middle school girl that just got dumped by her long-time steady.

D-ROB, I agree with your comment because M$ proved again that they are in this business only to destroy it! I´m a player since 1982 and I´ve never saw such a crap war like this in Entertainment business! They want players to see that because they put millions of dollars in Square pockets to bring FFXIII to Xcrap, that they win the "console war"! Please....
