Massive sales predicted, but will the highly anticipated RPG even get a release this year?
Hudson Square Research analyst Daniel Ernst has put together a list of what he predicts will be the top selling video games of calendar year 2008. The list, reported by GameDaily is unsurprisingly headed by Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV, with an estimated 13 million units.
"With its proven track record from prior iterations, we expect Take-Two's highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV to be the top-selling video game of 2008. We believe the title will be a driver for PS3 sales, and we expect strong uptake from Xbox 360," said Ernst.
Following GTA 4 are other likely heavy hitters, including Wii Fit (10 million), Super Smash Bros. Brawl (9 million), Mario Kart (8 million), Madden NFL 09 (7.5 million), Gran Turismo 5: Prologue (7 million) and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (6.6 million).
Interestingly Ernst predicts that Final Fantasy XIII, a game still without a release date, will not only see a release in 2008, but also sell a staggering 8 million units this year.
In the battle of platform exclusives, Ernst predicts Gears of War 2 will sell 7 million units, beating Metal Gear Solid 4 by a million units. In fact, MGS4 is predicted to be outsold by a host of other titles, including Call of Duty 5 (7 million) and Guitar Hero IV (7 million).

That's hardly surprising as Call of Duty 5 and Guitar Hero IV and Madden are all multiplatform, so affectively open to double the audience (PS3 & 360) of MGS4.
By that standard MGS4 has the multiplatform equivalent sales forecast of 12M+
If FFXIII is out this year, they are keeping quiet about it! Unless it's due to have a grand unveiling at this years E3?
