We had worried that FIFA 09 was going to end up like EURO 08 with a Premiership skin. Luckily for us, we were wrong. The best FIFA game ever made.

The game also has a number of bugs which you could probably find in the PES series if you go back a few years. For example, players running backwards totally out of the user's control whilst the ball just rolls out of play, and always selecting the wrong player when you need to change man quickly. It makes for a very realistic-looking but frustrating and disjointed experience.
One final thing. Unless I'm missing something - although I and friends have tried numerous times already - you can only organise a custom league with 4 humans in it. Yes, you can play the Lounge mode but that's just a bit of a laugh. If you want a proper league with more than 4 humans in it you're screwed. WHY??? Did the designer only have 3 friends and he's really bitter about it?! I've had a league with friends this weekend and had to WRITE THE RESULTS DOWN ON PAPER! Nice one EA!
On the plus side, the 1-player mode offers plenty and is not as sluggish as multiplayer/online. Be A Pro is excellent and the Management side is another option. It's just a shame EA neglected a few of the basics. Hopefully a couple of free software updates will iron out these bugs and we'll have a game that really deserves 9/10.

Just bought the game yesterday, and i was..
SIMPLY BLOWED AWAY.
It looks like that EA Sports has signed all konami people to work for FIFA instead of PES..
Man, this game plays like all pes games together, and then doubled, and the game looks like fifa08 and then doubled..
When they have made the new version of the popular CEP mod, the game looks and plays even better..
Looking forward to that.. but man, this is a SUPERB game

PES let itself down last year in terms of bugs and being rushed into production (awful multiplayer, lack of editing options, and little annoyances like not saving player 2/3/4 control options each time you reboot - was I the only one who noticed that?), but although FIFA is very well polished, PES just plays and feels right, and that feeling is what it's all about, it's ore important than the bellls and whistles like full team licenses etc. Combining the best elements of both would of course be the cream dream.
PES is still king with purists and gamers old enough to vote, and long may that continue - but if last year's bugs aren't fixed when it's released next week (or if there are new ones which should have been picked up in testing), God help you Seabass, because you'll lose a lot of long-term fans.

Fifa 09 surprised me this year . They managed to throw pes of the throne with this one. Konami ****ed it up over the passed years. nothing new and all the new features like online gameplay sucked big time.
I am a ex pes player who has crossed over. And for all the slack that you pes players are gonna give , I don't giev a f*ck
