EA has trumped Nintendo to top spot in the biggest game publishers in Europe race, according to rival Capcom.

Buried within Capcom's annual report (page 23 to be exact), released to the public overnight, is a graph detailing sales by publisher for both the Japanese and European market for the 2007 financial year.

It shows that EA is the biggest-selling game publisher in Europe, which some may find surprising given Nintendo's almost blanket dominance of the charts. Nintendo itself is second, closely followed by Ubisoft, Activision and THQ.

Sony, Microsoft and SEGA come in at sixth, seventh and eighth respectively, which is also somewhat of a surprise.

Capcom comes in at a surprisingly low 15th, although we suspect the Street Fighter 4 and Resident Evil 5 publisher will figure higher in next year's corresponding chart.

The information is sourced to ELSPA, which reports UK chart information.
