Speaking to VideoGamer.com at a recent roundtable interview in London, Bethesda Softworks vice president Pete Hines revealed that the developer's goal is to achieve graphical parity across all formats.

Asked about the PS3 version of the game which wasn't available to play at the recent preview event, Hines said: "It's coming along. We're getting down to the final strokes on all three versions. The goal is to have all three of them be the same game, the same kind of performance on all three platforms.

"That's the goal, that you can't tell the difference."

Bethesda was one of the first developers to release a multi-format title that actually looked better on the PS3 - Oblivion which arrived much later on PS3 than on Xbox 360 benefited from some visual enhancements that were patched into the Xbox 360 game at a later date.

Given its experience with multi-format development there's no reason to doubt Hines when he says all versions will be equal.

Fallout 3 is scheduled for release this autumn.

Graphics alone will not dictate whether or not the game is good. how it plays and how it feels on ether system will make or brake the game.

And so the gimping of Xbox 360 games (so as not to offend PS3 owners) begins.
