2K was working on another Duke Nukem game

Apogee Sotware unveils info on Duke Begins.

According to paperwork obtained by Voodoo Extreme, Apogee Software (parent company of 3D Realms) has revealed that Take-Two's 2K Games was working on a new Duke Nukem title called Duke Begins.

The game had been scheduled for completion by mid-2010, but work at a "well-known developer" was suspended in April 2009.

According to 3D Realms, Take-Two suspended development of Duke Begins in order to delay the commercial release of the game, which in turn would delay any royalty payments to Apogee from sales of Duke Begins and prevent Apogee from being able to repay a USD 2.5m advance when it becomes due in 2012.

3D Realms also believes that Take-Two and 2K took these actions with a goal of "pressuring Apogee to sell the Duke Nukem franchise rights to Take-Two for less than their true value".
