Electronic Arts is the latest company to join an alliance of US businesses opposed to country's Defence of Marriage Act (DOMA).

DOMA is a federal law which defines marriage as between a man and a woman.

EA is the latest company that believes the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals should find certain chunks of the Act unconstitutional.

"DOMA presents a number of problems for businesses like EA, as it creates regulatory, tax, and discrimination complications for employers, and that's why we're standing against it. The underlying lawsuit impacts all employers no matter how big or small, and no matter the industry, and we encourage other business to join these efforts," wrote EA on its website.

Earlier this year EA rigorously defended itself for allowing many of its games to feature same-sex relationships. "This isn't about protecting children, it's about political harassment," said EA corporations chief Jeff Brown in response to a petitioning campaign from US religious groups claiming this same-sex content was being "forced" upon children.

"Good for @EA for telling the homophobes to f*** off," said columnist Charlie Brooker at the time.
