Doom 3: BFG Edition, the enhanced version of id Software's PC FPS, will offer the best implementation of stereoscopic 3D ever seen in a video game, id Software producer Eric Webb has said.

"We were really surprised when we first had a look at it in 3D," explained Webb. John [Carmack, co-creator of the Doom series] went through quite a few different iterations of the game to help us figure out how best to fit the technology in. Just like adding DualShock 3 controls to the original Doom, 3D really brings Doom 3 to life.

"It's interesting when you're playing; you almost lose all of your peripheral vision and get sucked into the experience. I'd go so far as to say it's the best implementation of stereoscopic 3D I've seen in a game so far. It really does draw you in."

Webb also revealed that the included versions of Doom and Doom 2 will run at 60 frames per second, even in multiplayer.

"They are pretty much straight ports, but I will say that they run really fast at 60 frames per second, even with four-player split screen play going on," said Webb. "If you've got a big TV that's really going to stand out. The guys basically wrote it from scratch to get it working on PS3."

Doom 3: BFG Edition will be released October 19 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

I hope they make a better job of it than they did with Rage, which had the worst pop-up of any game I've seen in over 10 years!!

I loved Quake 4, too. Another solid Id shooter and one that features the cool medical scene :P I would have preferred to see Doom3 and Quake 4 as a double pack though.

I don't care about 'stereoscopic' 3D. I just cannot wait to play Doom 3 on my 32" TV. My old Xbox died, so I just have a load of old Xbox games in the loft, and my steelbook Doom 3 is among them!

Quake 4 next week! =D Cancelled my Spec Ops pre-order and opt for Quake 4 instead. Remastered? Why the f-not, as Quake 4 will be certainly be more worth while.

I imagine Doom 3 would be a great experience in stereoscopic 3D. I have no way of trying it out, but I'd like to get the opportunity.
