120,000 new players have joined DC Universe Online on PC since the MMO went F2P, Sony Online Entertainment has announced.

According to an announcement made on SOE president John Smedley's Twitter account, the number of concurrent users has increased by 400%.

Statistics for the PS3 version have not been made available however.

DC Universe Online went free-to-play for the first time November 1.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

DCUO is one of the rare few MMOs that ever bothered making the leap to console - it's had mixed reviews on the PS3 end so it would certainly be interesting to see how its console playerbase compares to PC.

I had a brief hands-on sesh eons ago on PS3 and wasn't massively impressed but that was largely down to the UI. Very simplified for console so you don't get the sort of variety you'd usually find when it comes to combat. That, and the minor issue that the character creator was total rubbish compared to something like City of Heroes/Villains. Will probably give it another go this weekend on PC to see how it's doing these days though, I've heard from a few people it's pretty alright now.

I wonder how many will continue playing/upgrade to the paid services to unlock the trophies and other basic MMO features (clan formation and the like)...

Obviously the same sort of people who won't install the disc on Battlefield 3 to get the Higher Def graphics on 360 I guess. :)

120,000 in a day is pretty impressive. If it turns out that they enjoy it then word of mouth should increase the numbers further.

Are you playing / have you played Emily? I started up a PS3 char last night and might try on the PC too, but would value your opinions!
