The Darksiders franchise is currently without a home after failing to be sold off during yesterday's THQ assets auction, but the fantasy action series isn't without admirers.

Overnight, Platinum Games executive director and producer Atsushi Inaba tweeted his interest in the franchise.

"Oh man in THQ's big sale it looks like nobody's bought Darksiders ... I'd love to buy that (if it was cheap)," he Tweeted in Japanese.

With no buyer found for Darksiders, staff at developer Vigil are now out of work.

"Some assets, including our publishing businesses and Vigil, along with some other intellectual properties are not included in the sale agreements. They will remain part of the Chapter 11 case. We will make every effort to find appropriate buyers, if possible," wrote CEO Brian Farrell and president Jason Rubin in a letter sent to THQ's former employees.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

It's not clear what Platinum Games would do with the Darksiders franchise, but it would be great to see what the studio behind Bayonetta and Vanquish could do with the IP.

It sold 820,000 copies within three months. There is definitely audience for the game, just better advertising was needed!

Darksiders is a good game, wasn't impressed with Darksiders II. Like the first game, it took a while to get my hooked, and Darksiders II just dragged. The sales for that series isn't very promising.

THIS, THIS, SO MUCH THIS! Sadly, Platinum don't own the IP, SEGA do. And I think sales figures have condemned that title to the history books.

I've never bothered with Darksiders, always felt it was something to maybe play one day instead of must play today.

I'm surprised Ubi were so cheap in their bidding... but I must still get round to playing Darksiders 1... as Dave Scammel mentioned on Twitter yesterday, if anyone is after the dlc for either title, might be best to get it now before any potential delisting...

Yeah I was expecting Ubi Soft to buy them but it looks like they want THQ's assets for almost nothing going from their bids on Saints Row.

God, I hope Vigil games gets picked up by a publisher that's sympathetic to Vigil's style. Personally, I loved Darksiders 2 and there can't be any doubts about the level of talent and passion within their ranks.

Just make Vanquish 2.

Although the rich Darksiders style accompanied with a frantic Platinum play-style could be the injection of energy that franchise needed. I wanted to love Darksiders 2. But, I only made it through a few hours and left with a feeling of "meh."
