According to Signal Hill analyst Todd Greenwald, THQ and Vigil Games' post apocalyptic action adventure Darksiders has not lived up to internal expectations.

Greenwald said THQ "spent fairly heavily" on marketing for PS3 and Xbox 360 title, but the results have fallen below one million units.

"Darksiders didn't perform up to THQ's expectations, likely selling less than 1 million units despite heavy marketing dollars, 2-3 years of development costs, and was also subject to discounting just two weeks after its release," said Greenwald.

Official sales figures haven't been released by THQ.

There's something about THQ's marketing that just never seems to generate word of mouth. Maybe that's something they could look at. My gut reaction is they need to find a new company to make trailers for them, their launch trailers always seem, to me at least, to lack a little pzazz.

It's a shame - I thought it was a cracking game - I really enjoyed it and would've liked to have seen a follow up in a couple of years time.

Its so hard for new IPs to get any traction. Its probably more to do with launching alongside Bayonetta which was also heavily marketed and received more critical acclaim.
