From Software and Namco Bandai has announced that Dark Souls has shipped in excess of 1.5 million units worldwide. The rock-hard action RPG has shipped the most units in North America, followed by Europe, then Japan.

Dark Souls shipment figures:

  • Japan: Released on 9/22, 370,000 shipped
  • North America: Released on 10/4, 620,000 shipped
  • Europe: Released on 10/7, 470,000 shipped
  • Asia: Released on 10/18, 40,000 shipped

Dark Souls is notoriously hard, but still received high review scores. We awarded the game an 8/10 in our Dark Souls review.

Stick with it, it's amazing once it clicks.

Even Tom Orry managed to kill the first proper boss. You can do it, and given your love of RPGS, I urge you to stick with it. It's my favourite game of the year now; it de-throned Deus Ex.

Which class did you pick? It doesn't matter in the long term, but the first few hours are much harder with certain load-outs.

Anyway, I'll cut the rant there. Drop me a DM if you want an early hint or two.

Good to see its selling well - I do mean to pick up a copy at somepoint in the future - maybe one for next summer's gaming drought...

You quit before even getting to the first mini boss?

I picked it up last night in ASDA (full price, but it's the first time in AGES I've been able to sniff a new manual). I rage quit after an hour, but at least I got as far as the 2nd bonfire.

Despite this, it's a good game, lots of tweaky stuff, ticks all the right boxes, just insanely difficult to get into.

I can't remember the last time I rage quit anything videogame related, so not sure if that's a positive or negative.

I find it reassuring that a new IP from a developer that has always focussed on the Japanese market can succeed in this market by releasing a game that's designed to make people hate it and themselves.

More then I expected as lets be honest it is a niche area many people would not enjoy the toughness of it.
