Expectations that it will be the No.1 game of the year.

Speaking at the Wedbush Morgan Securities annual meeting (reported by Kotaku), Activision CFO Thomas Tippl said that Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is "looking incredible".

"Last year we had probably beaten most expert expectations by growing the Call of Duty franchise over the tremendous success that was the first iteration of Modern Warfare," he said. "For 2009, Modern Warfare is coming back, we expect it will be the most anticipated game of the year. Perhaps the number one game of the year despite the fact that it's only going to launch in the holiday season.

"There is no doubt in my mind that it will again raise the bar for the shooter genre. The game is looking incredible and Infinity Ward, the studio that is developing it, is just doing an unbelievable job."

Given the massive following of the first Modern Warfare, would anything less than "incredible" be acceptable? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

So long as it improves on the previous title(s) which we can probably expect, MW2 will be another amazing FPS which will be on many gamers "must have" list. Although many people consider the WWII setting old hat, Treyarch proved that they could create an amazingly engaging title which in it's own right is worthy of the praise it has received and then some.

Infinity Ward will no doubt deliver a title to challenge game of the year contenders and I think that the modern setting will prove far more appealing to the gaming community as time goes by. I hope that IW include more of the unique level settings that Modern Warfare boasted. How much fun did y'all have blasting the baddies from the heavens under the haze of night vision and infra-red??? Yeah, thought so... this was an ingenius way to break the mould and stomp into new ground. It was a fully fledged level but had the arcadey appeal of a mini-game. More of these little gems would be nice.

I also loved the extra level we were thrown into if we sat through the end credits. A great way to reward the player and an immensely satisfying addition to an already amazing campaign.

This one will be worthwhile no matter what.

Awesome it is going to be the best i swear i cant wait and modern warfare can never be tiresome like ww2
WW2 got boring because of the same type of missions and storyline. In ww2 games you have to kill germans and u belong to us, uk or russia and u hav to take berlin, fight for yours motherland eeetc so it became boring
mw on the other hand is limitless as the time progresses there will be new story lines.
So, i agree wido with your feelings about ww2 but not with mw.

The online is going to be like COD4 no matter of a doubt. Don't expect 'major' changes to Modern Warfare 2 why should they? COD4 is still the best FPS hence its BAFTA award. The only solution I can think is that they add more to the game than rather changing the whole game to suit others.

Of course its going to sell into millions and hoepfully IW don't be all biased and just do a 360 speical edition, the PS3 should have it as well! People got bored of WWII because everything was covered about it and it got all the same. It will also be like with the modern warfare so I think Modern Warfare 2 could be the last 'Modern Warfare' and if there is a third then look more into the future like Ghost Recon.

One of COD4's great strengths was that it was a refreshing change from World War II. COD5 didn't have that, and neither will COD6 by the sounds of it. There's a risk that in the same way some people got a bit tired of WWII, they're going to get a bit tired of MW. It'll sell millions either way so who cares?
