In the publisher's quarterly financial report, it has been revealed that downloadable content for Call of Duty 2 on the Xbox 360 has made around $1 million in revenue. In a Q&A session, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said that the free bonus pack has received downloads totalling 334,000, the 400 point Skirmish Map Pack has been purchased 105,000 times, and the 800 point Invasion Map Pack has to date managed sales of 66,000.

Certainly impressive numbers and proof that publishers don't need to release downloadable content cheaply to make money. The more expensive Invasion Map Pack has generated revenue of around half a million dollars, with the cheaper pack only generating $368,000. Not surprisingly, Activision is hoping to achieve even further success through online revenue.

"During the quarter our Call of Duty maps generated approximately $1 million in revenue, a critical first step in exploiting the online revenue potential and extending the shelf life of our games," said Kotick. "This holiday we'll look to further capitalize on the success of the franchise and its online capabilities."

We can expect to see downloadable content for Call of Duty 3 then.
