What we've been playing this week.
Tom Orry, Editor - Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll, Wii
Some people are made to, how shall we put it… shake their ass. Some people most definitely aren't. How much fun you get out of SEGA's Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll will depend on how keen you are to look like a fool, moving your hips about as if you had an invisible hoola hoop around your waist, while stood on the Wii Balance Board. No matter how willing you are to do this, the game isn't best played using the hugely popular Wii peripheral, but for many people the taking part will be all that matters.
Wesley Yin-Poole, Deputy Editor - Mass Effect 2, Xbox 360
Mass Effect 2's great for so many reasons, but one of the best is the new interrupt system. At random moments, either the left trigger or right trigger symbol will pop up on screen, allowing you to take control of a cutscene with a Paragon (Light side) action or Renegade (dark side) action. Seeing how Shepard plays out these interrupts is one of Mass Effect's great joys. From punching reporters in the face to laying healing hands on sick aliens, you never quite know what'll happen when you pull the trigger. But let's be honest, the Renegade interrupts are the most fun, aren't they? Even when you're playing Paragon, it's hard to resist pulling the right trigger, just to see what aggressive, sometimes downright evil, action Shepard will take. Don't worry. It's not just you. We all do it.
Sebastian Ford, Video Producer - BioShock 2, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC
The return to Rapture has certainly been interesting, but far from breathtaking. I still remember walking through that first dark hallway, right before you descend into the underwater city for the first time in BioShock 1. A giant statue looms over you, bearing the message: "No Gods or Kings. Only Man". That's some powerful stuff right there, but BioShock 2 seems devoid of anything so instantly jaw dropping. Being a Big Daddy helps a lot to remedy this, with a quick plasmid zap and a giant drill to the face feeling worryingly satisfying. Bioshock 1 set the scene, and this sequel has simply stuffed it with awesome, meaty combat.
