Reiterates graphics goal is to be 'as good as on 360'.
Sony's Blu-ray technology "hasn't made much difference" to the upcoming PS3 version of stupendously great 360 and PC FPS BioShock, the game's associate producer has told VideoGamer.com.
BioShock, originally released for 360 and PC late in 2007, is scheduled for release on PS3 in Europe on October 24, and will come with a new survivor difficulty mode and exclusive downloadable content in the form of Challenge Rooms.
PS3 owners had hoped for some form of graphical upgrade, however, senior producer at publisher 2K Games Melissa Miller confirmed to us at the Leipzig Games Conference last week that the team was aiming towards graphical parity with the 360 version, and that the Blu-ray format hadn't made much difference.
She said: "Graphical quality our goal was always to make sure everything looked just as good as on Xbox 360. So there was never anybody who could say, hey, why didn't I get this on 360 originally, because I don't feel like it's up to the visual quality. We're just trying to make sure that everybody is happy."
When asked if the Blu-ray format had provided any advantages to the development team, Miller replied: "In terms of specific things, it hasn't made much difference. The original game fit on a 360 disk so it wasn't like we were in need of room. We've tried to do what we can to make sure that the PS3 looks just as great as the 360, but in terms of necessarily utilising something specific about Blu-ray, to my knowledge, Blu-ray hasn't necessarily made a huge difference."
Miller's comments reinforce what she herself told us at E3 in Los Angeles in July, just in case you were in doubt.

Hey Wesley! Don't you believe your title "BioShock PS3 dev: 'Blu-ray hasn't made much difference'" is a (little) bit biased?!
After reading the whole article I've found at least two interesting things: first, the interviewed was not a developer (as a programmer) 'per se', but a senior producer (not exactly the same thing); second, the context were something like that 'title' statement was made, clearly tells that IN THIS PROJECT, this wasn't even a question, because this game was initially developed for XBOX360 that, as you know, doesn't have the same CD capacity.
Maybe you can later ask her if when she starts producing the NEXT current gen project they will be limited by the XBox360 CD size limitations when defining texture quality/size, audio compression, number of levels, etc, etc.

xbox blockbusters? like...... GOW? cause if your strictly talking GOW then i agree but if you think there are other "blockbusters" like halo or one of the other four or five exclusives that hit the xbox then i would have to disagree. all i know is i got one game coming out on the xbox that im interested in and at least 10 on the ps3. even if nothing comes from the cell processor im cool with that. ill still be less bummed then when i got an early version of xbox and missed out on hdmi or when i found out there was no wi-fi but the damn wii had it. or when microsoft and all there wisdom sided with HDDVD.

Yes, the title of the article is biased.
It's that need some guys have of bashing blu-ray. Those guys who say size doesn't matters, you know?
He probably also thought that DVD was stupid. And high density floppy disks...

well, well, here we are again. she said that her self that there goal is to please everyone. what that means is, they din't try to use the advances of blu-ray, or the ps3. read next time......

"advances of blu-ray"
There is only one advance of blu-ray over dvd and that is extra space which they didnt need in the first place. Blu-ray is NOT a video game disk, it is a movie disk and is best used for movies, its horrible for games.

@BlazingKrotch
Tell that to Kojima productions.

Ooops. My bad. Previous was my post.

Their goal was not to utilize the advantages of blu-ray anyhow. There's really no point reading the entire article since the first line says it all "Reiterates graphics goal is to be 'as good as on 360'." IF it said "... to exceed ..." then that's a whole different story (most likey about that specific 2K team getting canned for lack of technical expertise).
@BlazingKrotch
You obviously know nothing about blu-ray. Blu-ray is not a content-specific media ... can you imagine an entire discography (Beatles, U2 etc) on a single disc ? That would be way cool !

So it's basically a Copy-Paste job. And it took them a year. Must be because of the timed exclusivity clause. And reviewers being the bigoted fools they are will now make out this version to be the shit one. I'd laugh if they said the game was worse or something. That in itself would confirm that the gaming media is done for good and should not be trusted.

@Some Guy
No, the blu-ray disk is movie centric that is why it has slow disk reading speeds because a movie doesn't need fast disk reading speeds.

She said "It hasn't made MUCH difference." So it has made SOME difference. As long as the frame rate and graphics are as excellent as the 360 version it makes no flippin' difference anyway. More content does help, though.

what a stupid question,man some people are so thick ,if it fits on a dvd then bluray won,t help a lot now will it.now if we put mgs4 on dvd as opposed to blu ray well how thick do you want your dvd cases and with final fantasy coming to 360 we will find out lol
