Medal of Honor and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit have each shipped more than five million units to date, EA announced overnight.
According to John Riccitiello, EA chief executive officer and executive director, the Need for Speed franchise is now firmly back on track.
"It's on a sharp uptick the last couple of years as we've driven high-quality titles ever higher in the charts, particularly in Europe but also in North America," he said during the publisher's overnight Q3 earnings call.
In 2010 EA launched a total of five games which went on to sell more than five million units: Madden NFL 11, Bad Company 2, FIFA 11 and the aforementioned Medal of Honor and NFS Hot Pursuit.
Madden has sold over 5.5 million units to retailers, while FIFA 11 shipments currently stand at more than 11.5 million.
With the Need for Speed franchise changing hands to Criterion (Burnout), it's great to see the studio's first effort achieving sales success. Strong reviews and good word of mouth should also ensure a steady stream of additional sales over the course of the year.
