You have to 'make a better game. And make a better game again,' said EA CEO John Riccitiello.

In order to outsell Activision's annual releases in the Call of Duty franchise EA must regularly release better games, CEO John Riccitiello has said.

You have to "Make a better game. And make a better game again," he told Kotaku.

"If I had to pick the story I'd like to play out next year is we ship a 90 and they ship an 85," he said "[Activision has] an awful lot of momentum without heir brand, no doubt. What I've witnessed a couple of times in the games industry is the way you unseat a market leader is you make a better game a couple of times in a row."

He added that "over time, we can take the lead".

VideoGamer.com Analysis

Unless EA comes out with an FPS which suddenly sells three times the units of some of its biggest hits - Bad Company 2 sold six million units - this isn't going to be an overnight change, but Riccitiello is confident that 2011 will be a great year for EA in the FPS space.

"I have great expectations to do a lot better in 2011 than in 2010 on the strength of a couple of products like Bulletstorm and Crysis [2], but most importantly for us, Battlefield 3, which I feel incredibly good about," he said.

We'd certainly expect Battlefield 3 to challenge and most likely eclipse the sales of Bad Company 2. Bulletstorm is a new IP, but strong reviews could help it past a million sales, while we expect Crysis 2 to match the performance of this year's Medal of Honor.

Well am sure that meeting must have been a blast so guys we made moh and battlefield but everyone is playing blops how can we improve? Oh I know if we make better games people will believe they are better!

I don't see crysis as a direct competitor in that way Wido, same as halo resistance, killzone etc as in they are not meant bulls deep military shooters in the same way battlefield, cod and moh aim to be.

If Infinity Ward do the next COD i think any game will not compete. COD will be hard to keep the ball rolling on a bounce. But i think they have done very well, normally by the 4th title in a series, its in tatters.

I forgot the name of the other developer who is on-board to develop the next CoD game right? Something like that. I'm sure someone or yourself will tell me that.

I think Crysis 2 is definitely going to be the game that will worry Activision in terms of knocking the CoD franchise a little bit, but like you said. The next instalment of the CoD franchise will be telling us what quality it still has.

The next Call of Duty will be telling of its future quality, I think. Treyarch put out a solid game as usual, but we expected this. What we don't know is how good the other studios are at carrying the brand since the shake up earlier this year.

I think MW2 is the best Call of Duty game there is and will ever be, but the question is whether EA catch up before people stop caring about this kind of experience. This is how two horse races usually work. One pulls ahead and runs out of steam, so the other can have a lead for a while, and the cycle continues. It's almost inevitable that EA will catch up.
