Crytek acquires Haze developer

40 jobs saved at the UK studio responsible for the TimeSplitters franchise.

GamesIndustry.biz reports that Crytek's acquisition of UK development studio Free Radical Design has now been completed. Free Radical went into administration in December 2008, laying off over 140 positions within the company.

"We are pleased to announce that a sale completed to Crytek late last night thus preserving over 40 jobs," confirmed Cameron Gunn, administrator at ReSolve Partners.

An announcement regarding the details of the acquisition is expected later today.

This is great news! Hopefully Timesplitters work can now continue and their next game will be much improved from the very average Haze.

I wonder what IPs were included in the deal? Time Splitters with Crysis graphics? And what about all that lovely footage knocking around on YouTube with the Star Wars theme that FRD were working on for LucasArts? Hopefully that'll surface again one day because it looked really good.
