CVG is reporting that SOCOM 4 is confirmed to appear at E3 and is likely to be a PlayStation 3 launch title.

Also confirmed for the PlayStation 3 is a sequel to the hack 'n' slash epic God of War, but unlike SOCOM 4 it might not make it to E3. The game is, however, well into development and according to CVG, both God of War and SOCOM 4 will be released on PlayStation 2 as well as the PlayStation 3.

Whilst the news of current-gen versions may bring a smile to those not wanting to splash out on a PlayStation 3, it does cast doubt over the true next-gen quality of the PlayStation 3 versions. Will they simply be jazzed up current-gen games, rather than titles built from the ground up on the PlayStation 3? Hopefully we won't have to wait long to find out.
