Square-Enix has announced a special Final Fantasy XII edition PlayStation 2 for release in Japan.
The special edition console will come bundled with a copy of the game, a FFXII phone strap and all the usual gubbins you get with a PlayStation 2. All that separates the special edition console from any other slimline PlayStation 2 is a FFXII symbol on its casing. Not so special then. Enough to get Final Fantasy collectors to snap up another PlayStation 2? Most probably.
This "special edition" PlayStation 2 is currently only planned for release in Japan with a European release very unlikely. However, a Square-Enix rep has told Eurogamer that the FFXII console could make it to PAL territories "if demand is high enough." I wouldn't count on it though. Final Fantasy XII is released in Japan on March 16, with a European release expected at some point later in the year.
