An error was made in the design of Cataclysm says community manager.
The linear design of World of Warcraft's last expansion, Cataclysm, was an error according to the MMO's community manager Draxxari.
In a long thread on the official forums, Draxxari responded to users analysing why Cataclysm failed to impress many of the userbase.
He explained: "That was an error we made with the design of Cataclysm, but getting players invested in the world again is something we're interested in addressing with Mists."
Officially, however, World of Warcraft's lead quest designer Dave Kosak told VideoGamer.com the studio was happy with the state of Cataclysm.
In response to the question of whether users who were unhappy with Cataclysm will feel more satisfied with Mists of Pandaria, Kosak stated:
"For me Cataclysm, when we talk about the expansion, for me a lot of Cataclysm was the 1-60 re-design which was an epic amount of work. And I think we managed to pull that off in a time frame and we managed to do it and refresh the old world – that was a big part of Cataclysm. We're really happy with how that turned out!"
The MMO's next expansion, Mists of Pandaria, currently has no official release date but is thought to launch sometime before summer 2012.
