World of Warcraft News

For:PC Release Date: 11 February 2005

Parents of a 13-year-old boy, who died after jumping from a building, are claiming that World of Warcraft is to blame for this death.

The Chinese news agency Xinhua is reporting that the parents of the boy claim their son died after jumping from a building in an attempt to re-enact a scene from the game. The parents are supported by the activist Zhang Chunliang, who campaigns to highlight the dangers of Internet Addiction.

Chunliang has talked with more than 60 parents whose children suffer from online gaming addiction, and is now to file a law suit against Blizzard, blaming the MMO giant for the boy's death.

This is bollocks. Seriously? What, 2,500 people die from cocaine abuse in the US per year. A child dies of World of Warcraft addiction... Oh my freaking God! Blizzard's fault of course. Like mentioned earlier, the manual states that children should be supervised.

By the way, only five people (I think) have died from WoW addiction. Ever.

I've seen this story all over the place, and I'm really confused. They all say a 13-year old chinese kid, but they cant' agree on which game. Some say Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, some say Warcraft III, and some say WoW.

it really is the parents who are to blame for this, the game manual states childeren should be supervised when playing, they obviously didn't take it seriously enough, also a 13 year old boy would probz have to have problems to do this, so they should have known n not let him play the game.
