Blizzard Entertainment has announced that World of Warcraft has reached a new subscriber milestone.
World of Warcraft debuted in North America on November 23, 2004 and has gone on to become the world's most popular MMORPG.
The game now has more than nine million subscribers worldwide and Blizzard is working with its Chinese partner The9 to prepare The Burning Crusade for launch in mainland China. This launch is expected to bring an influx of new and returning subscribers.
"We're thrilled that gamers around the world have continued to embrace World of Warcraft so enthusiastically," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "We've worked hard to provide a compelling experience for our players, and we plan to continue updating the game with exciting new content for them to enjoy for many years to come."
World of Warcraft is currently available in seven different languages and is played in North America, Europe, mainland China, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

I'm just wondering what proportion of that 9 million is Western gamers and what proportion is Asian. Great to see Blizzard doing so well though, maybe they'll get around to doing a console version seeing as they can probably afford to do so.
