The World of Warcraft character upgrade interface was spotted yesterday after US servers came back online following maintenance, revealing a level 90 boost to cost $60.

MMO Champion notes that the $60 price tag may be a place holder, and is subject to change once the facility launches on live servers.

The ability to pay to boost characters to level 90 comes in addition to a free upgrade for purchasing Warlords of Draenor – those who have pre-purchased got the boost early.

Warlords of Draenor lifts the level cap to 100.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

At $60 this is costly enough to ensure those who have put in the grind don't feel short-changed by Blizzard. Dishing out level 90 boosts for $10 may have been poorly received.

install wow, delete your life. I played this game for 7 years. It's nice outside. I'm glad I quit... for good.

WoW has "jumped the shark."

This week I actually reinstalled WoW, just to have a lookee around. Guess I can't say "I'm the only guy who's actually left the game for real" anymore, meh. I loved the game and its community in its early days, but by the time I left the game actually disgusted me and made me want to want to stop gaming altogether (jesus that was back in 2009, has it been this long?). I didn't like the direction Blizzard was heading, and sadly it's kinda just gotten worse with time.

The game does have its good points, but sadly it also embraces and embodies ALL of the things that I hate about the industry and the current state of the market - cash shops; paid premium "services"; elitist gamers; community full of loud vocal a-holes... et cetera.

Anyways yes there is and will be outrage, but for better or worse the community will still pay, pay again, and then come back for more. Before you know it other companies will adopt the same prices and structures, and suddenly making it "the industry standard"...

You get one free I think with the new expansion.

Paying $60 to get a level 90 character isn't a bad deal when you consider it probably costs the same (it used to be a lot more) to have a bot service do it for you. This is a safer method. Most people I know who used a bot service for anything ended up being hacked shortly after or just hacked straight out.

The downside to it will be that people who are cash rich but skill poor will end up with a lot of top level characters with no idea of how to play them. Though having said that, most of what you learn about how to play that game with other people came from when you reached whatever the max level was.
