Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is a better game at launch than Blizzard's World of Warcraft was. That's the confident claim from Mythic creative director Paul Barnett, from an interview with VideoGamer.com.

Warhammer Online is going head to head with World of Warcraft this Christmas, and hopes to steal players from the 10 million plus paying subscribers Blizzard's game currently enjoys.

Barnett told VideoGamer.com: "We're a better game at launch than they were. Our game at launch compared to their game now? Well, it's a little unfair. We've got a little more running to do, but we have brought lots of cool innovation."

Barnett pointed towards key differences between both games that he believes makes Mythic's MMO a better experience than Blizzard's behemoth.

"If you're a WoW player why would you change? There's no item damage, because that's dull. There's no running back from graveyards, because that's dull. Your inventory bags get bigger as you fill it so you don't have to go buy one from some pretend plastic famous person. That's quite cool. Our PvP is actually very jolly. You can customise our interface. You don't want a map up there then move it or delete it. We've got mods obviously'. Stuff like that. Oh and public quests because they're new and cool."

You'll be able to make your own mind up this Thursday when the game is officially released.

Well, most obviously, it will have to be a better game at the release. WoW was released in 2004, and since then, many waters have flown through the river. Of course, the graphics will be better and so on, but I doubt that WAR will be as good as WoW in just one year. WoW really is the best MMORPG ever released.

Oh, I remember it clearly. It was horrible. Just like WAR is now.

Apparently you don't remember WoW when it first came out.. or all of the little features they ninja'd in along the way that people don't realize didn't exist at release. Having played WoW since shortly after release and playing through the closed/open beta for WAR, I can easily agree that WAR is better than WoW was at release.

No. No it isn't.

With the POSSIBLE exception of the graphics.
