Mark Rein says "it goes without saying" that more development time equals more optimisation.
UT3 on Xbox 360 will have better graphics than on PS3, Epic chief Mark Rein has hinted.
Speaking to VideoGamer.com at the game's official unveiling in Las Vegas this week, Rein said that because Epic has spent more time on the 360 version compared with the PS3 version of the game it had benefited from more optimisation, and said that gamers "can draw your own conclusions from that".
The 360 version of UT3 features two-player split-screen support across all modes except online ranked, to prevent cheating. It also contains three brand new maps, two re-imagined maps and two new characters, as well as all the DLC from the PS3 and PC versions.
When asked what version of UT3 has the better graphics, Rein replied: "You'll have to judge that for yourself. I think it goes without saying that the more time you spend on a product the more optimisation you get, and you can draw your own conclusions from that. But this is a great version of the game. And now we have split screen as well. A lot of optimisation was necessary for this version to get decent performance with split screen. That was no easy task."
He added: "We heard from the PS3 guys they really wanted split-screen. Maybe if we'd spent eight more months on the game like we have here. But a lot of work has gone into making this game fast and smooth enough to be able to do split screen and still maintain a high frame rate. This is a very good version of the game. I don't think anyone's going to feel that this is anything but our best. I mean anything but our best effort. Just like all the other versions we've really put in a lot of effort in this version."

Unreal Tournament 3 is due out for Xbox 360 in Summer 2008. The PC and PS3 versions are out now.

Remember when Rein talked up Blu-Ray and said they could fit more on a disc, so the media portraied it as the PS3 will have more map content. Seems funny now that the 360 version is going to include all the PS3 maps including the extra DLC maps plus extra 360 exclusive maps. And on top of that the game is going to look better?
Piity about the mod support, but it looks like the best mods are going to get uploaded to XBLM anyway. It's funny Rein hinted that mod support could be added after release. If this was always the case, why delay the title in the first place you idoit. I'll tell you why, because Sony slipped Epic a check for exclusivity. That exclusivity will ran out in June (6 months) which will be the release date. Mod support was just a clever way for Rein to try and punish MS and cover up the extra pocket change they made off Sony's holiday 07 desperation.

It was stated by the maker of Assasin's Creed that they were having memory problems with the PS3 and Xbox 360, stating something like it uses up memory in a much different fassion than then the 360. To run games at full 1080p takes up lots of memory. How can a system that is touted to be, so much powerful than the 360, keep coming up short. Oh wait next year is when they will show us. I'm waiting to buy the PS3 personally and there will have to atleast have 3 games that will blow me away, because history is showing that all multi platform games are running more smoothly on the 360.

Who cares about UT3? I do, i've had enough of all these tactical shooters. I want mindless fragging and hardcore FPS action.

hey it looks better on 360.... what can you do lol. I own both PS3 and 360. Guess I may have to get this on 360. Guess I gotta get GTA on 360 too.... no real reason to pick the PS3 version of that over the 360 version. Dang, sony needs more exclusives... so far I have all multiplat games on 360... they are just smoother....

Does it really matter what console it looks better on? We all know the game sucks and is just a demo for the engine! So, it really doesn't matter what format you play it on nor which one it looks better on. :D
ghostdog25 wrote at 04:47 on 20 April 2008
if you have both consoles... it matters. why not get the best version?
Nxs wrote at 04:51 on 20 April 2008
The best version is on the PC! And that is still not good enough! I don't give a crap what reasoning you use, UT3, just is not that good. No matter the format, whether it be a console or the PC, all that game is, is just a tech demo to sell the engine :D
Scabby Sid wrote at 16:52 on 20 April 2008
it may be a "tech demo" but the entire engine was made for this game xD anyway, both install times and PSN suck so 360 all the way! wooo!! xD

PC is the best version hands down, 360 users can think they are better but the harcore action all plays out on your desktop.
Wido wrote at 19:45 on 20 April 2008
Agreed to PC Gaming, it will always be better. But consoles are getting powerful as a PC, and more afford-able of course.
Pangtong_Blademaster wrote at 19:48 on 20 April 2008
yeh i see your point, I was a bit of late starting PC gamer but have realised the wonders of what you can do on a desktop.
Wido wrote at 19:52 on 20 April 2008
But the key thing to remember is that, PC gaming will always be poweful but at a price....
Pangtong_Blademaster wrote at 19:55 on 20 April 2008
Indeed, I don't like updating my computer every time i want to a kickass game and patches are a huge cost of time.

Im surprised Netmind hsnt bumped the PC version yet lol! I agree pc version ll the way! Easy controls and smooth gameplay. Loading times aint bad either! Some games are totally better on a PC.
Karlius wrote at 10:45 on 21 April 2008
I think the point is being missed here. PC will be the better choice for this type of game it's a given. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work this out! What the point is about that the supposed dominating console "PS3" with its "BlueRay" storage was not needed to make the superior game on the 360. I had no doubt that all content would be fitted on the DVD it already had been done on the PC.

While it is safe to say pc gaming is overall better in terms of graphical capabilities it is out of reach when it comes down to afford ability, simply building or buying a rig to handle these games today cost over the price of any console on the market, a decent gaming rig I built was a quad core phenom processor, 2 gigs ddr2 800mghz ram, 640 mg 8800 gts sli capable mother board, 700 watt psu, nice case and plenty of fans ran me to a little over $1,000 my power supply was $130, video card only one at that was nearly $300 mother board $130, Amd phenom cpu was a little over $200 it is costly to game on pc, then mind you Vista Premium being nearly $200 bucks, then in a year or so maybe two pc games will require more video ram meaning dishing out money on another card for sli, luckily it will be cheaper but still, then add needing patches, drivers tweaking its just a hassle and most people don't want to go through so much just to game.
Consoles are simple pick up and play, average life span 4-6 years with no need for hard ware upgrading, even I prefer my Xbox 360 and Ps3 over my pc, also games come to the console first lots of times with the exception for very hard ware intensive games like crysis being exclusive to the pc, but we all remember F.E.A.R on the pc first then on the xbox 360.
GTA 4 will be on the 360 and ps3 in one week still no word on a pc version, what 10 months from now maybe, but me I'm getting it on my 360 same goes for Gears 2 even though pc version will come out.
