In celebration of the 10th anniversary of The Settlers II, the new edition of the game will allow PC gamers to relive the 1996 classic with new 3D graphics and additional gameplay features. The all-new in-game engine, developed exclusively by Ubisoft's Blue Byte Studio in cooperation with Funatics, creates a unique comic book-style interactive environment, complete with beautiful fauna and flora.

In The Settlers II players need to establish a running economy in a world set in the 5th century BC. Build streets and optimize the transport system to ensure the most efficient transportation of goods. Players will also have a choice of 31 different buildings, 25 carriers, 5 military units and 31 goods to use.

The Romans, Nubians and Chinese return to the single-player campaign with ten large missions to be completed, plus numerous additional maps, a random map generator and multiplayer modes.

"The Settlers brand has enormous potential and is a great concept that PC aficionados have been able to relate to and rally round for over a decade," said John Parkes, EMEA Marketing Director, Ubisoft. "We are really excited to bring these fun characters back to life, this time in a 3D environment, and we trust the Settlers fans and many more will enjoy being back playing the three different nations!!"

I've been playing The Settlers II since 1995. At first it was P-100, VGA 1mb, HDD 1,2Gb and RAM 16mb!!! I deem ‘The settlers II’ is the best one from the line. All consecutive versions were losing their orderliness and economic structure gradually from 3 to 5. They became more Warcraft-like, Age-of-empires-like and Command&conquer-like. (Nonetheless, I spent huge amount of time, playing the fourth one).
I yearn to see roads and flags again in Settlers II (10th anniversary edition). Do you remember those wonderful traffic jams which appeared on the roads near highly active construction sites when your country expanded greatly? Do you remember those shortages of loaders at far-away areas when you have captured enemies’ territory and can’t build there anything because there are no loaders on the roads? And certainly these magic words: THUNDER and WINTER!!!! And how shall fans understand the way buildings are constructed in Settlers 5: they are not constructed; they EMERGE from the underground like a formidable monster in low-quality RPG!!!!!!!
And what has happened to forester’s and fisherman’s shacks in sequels?
I am waiting for the moment when I can install Settlers II (10th anniversary edition) and find out whether the game has turned back to its origins, whether graphical form stopped prevailing over construction ramification and structural variety.
