LucasArts has announced that following the success of The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, the game's sequel, Monkey Island 2, is also getting the Special Edition treatment with a release planned for this summer.

Monkey Island 2 Special Edition will be released on Xbox LIVE Arcade, PSN, iPhone, iPod touch and Windows PC.

Having defeated the evil ghost pirate LeChuck in his first adventure, pirate extraordinaire Guybrush Threepwood sets his sights on the treasure of Big Whoop. Guybrush must overcome a host of challenges and use every single ounce of his wits to become the most celebrated pirate ever.

Special edition features including high-definition graphics, a re-mastered musical score, full voiceover, and an in-depth hint system all return in the sequel. Additionally, the game will offer an all-new way to interact with the world of Monkey Island like never before.

Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge will allow for direct control of Guybrush, allowing players to forego the old point-and-click system of navigation if they choose.

The game will also feature an audio commentary from its creators as they share their thoughts and memories about the making of the game.

"The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition really resonated with gamers young and
old thanks to its classic storyline and updated gameplay features," said LucasArts' President Darrell Rodriguez. "We're adding even more great new features in this sequel and can't wait for classic Monkey Island fans and newcomers alike to experience perhaps the most beloved instalment in the franchise ever."

LucasArts also spreads word that The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will soon be available to download on the PS3 via PSN - good news for PS3 gamers yet to experience the adventure on another platform.
