However, I can't stand it when developers change the initial formula of a franchise (see Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, etc) so I can see how bigger fans of the series would dislike the "Elder Scrolls" label being attached to it...

Using the MMO template and sticking elder scrolls on it, won't be as successful as they think unless they get the payment model right. I think the boxed single pay price model (like guild wars 2) would be the best for them. Anything else (subscription or free to play) would probably ruin them.
I think a bunch of people would of prefered if you could set up a server in skyrim for example, open up that world and them play with you mates, doing quests, messing about and exploring.

The universe of elder scrolls seems a great place for an mmo, don't get me wrong. It just seems a decade too early for me in terms of technology, like Fantasy Meister said. It won't differenciate itself enough from the WoW template? Maybe too early to judge.

Having said that I will still give it a fair crack (i.e play for 3-4 months, rinse the content and then stop playing).

Mega-Shard - just one server that lets you join your friends/guild mates
Perks like Werewolf and Vampire
It looks like Two Worlds (and I'm a huge fan of Two Worlds)
But then the downsides:
PvP, Raids, Adventure zones - already done to death
HUD - there's a reason why they're not showing the HUD
The number of rigs that could run the large scale PvP shown in the video without issues affecting gameplay? I frankly find it hard to believe the claims made in the video, put it that way.
So overall, I went from pessimissm before seeing the video, to interested, then back to pessimissm again. It just all seems too generic still.
