The Fallout 4 next-gen update comes out today. It’s been anticipated for several months and it will be a free excuse for existing owners of the game to return to the wasteland and slip back into the iconic yellow and blue vaultsuit. Unfortunately, while fans are appreciative of its arrival, the creators of Fallout London believe they have been ‘screwed over’ by the Fallout 4 next-gen update.

The release date and time is set for when the Fallout 4 next-gen update will come out. Bethesda has outlined all of the new content coming with the update from additional items to a new story to improved stability and FPS. Provided you own the game on either PlayStation, Xbox, or PC, you will be able to download the update entirely for free.

If you are on Xbox, you don’t even to need own FO4 as it’s available through Game Pass. While the arrival of all the new content and improvements is exciting, the unfortunate news is that it has come at the expense of the highly-anticipated Fallout London created by fans.

Fallout London ‘screwed over’ by Fallout 4 next-gen update

While the arrival of the Fallout 4 next-gen update is great news for most, the creators of Fallout London feel ‘blindsided’ and ‘screwed over’.

Per PC Gamer, Dean Carter, the project lead on Fallout London, spoke to the BBC. He told the BBC that Bethesda gave their team of modders no warning about the next-gen update, and Bethesda “has, for a lack of a better term, screwed us over”.

Fallout London is a passion project by a team of modders. It is a ‘DLC-sized’ mod that was intended to come out on April 23rd. The release date has been delayed because of the next-gen update. In a ten-minute-long announcement video on the TEAM FOLON YouTube channel, Dean Carter explained that the release date had to be delayed again because “With the new update dropping, the past four years of our work stand to just simply break”.

Although disappointed by the suddenness of the next-gen update, Carter has looked on the bright side. In the announcement video, he acknowledges that engine improvements and performance upgrades will benefit the Fallout London mod, such as widescreen compatibility.

In the interview with BBC, Carter explained that April 23rd was the selected release date because it was a “day that would work well for us, it would be after the series had come out, and also, it had related to when the in-game start date is as well being St George’s Day”.

Carter also questioned Bethesda’s decision to release the Fallout 4 next-gen update on April 25th.

Originally, the “DLC-sized” mod that promises to transport Fallout 4 players to post-nuke London chose April 23 for its release because it was a Carter explains. “I don’t want to say ‘suspect’ because that makes it sound malicious,” said Carter, “But if you were a big corporation and there was a fantastic [Fallout TV] series that just came out, you think you’d coalign it and have the big update ready on the same day the series comes out”.

Unfortunately, there’s no new release date for when Fallout London will come out. All Carter has said is that they will try to get it out as soon as possible.
