There are times during Gears of War 3 when it's hard to believe the game is running on the same console that gave us the launch line-up six years ago. The game Epic has created is easily the most impressive looking game I've seen running on the now close-to-retirement console, sporting a crispness and lighting quality that is rarely seen. I've always been a huge Gears fan, largely due to the incredible production values, and Gears 3 definitely feels like the most refined game in the series. I'm loving the campaign so far, although I have to admit that the baby corpsers freak me out.

Neon Kelly, Deputy Editor - Flick Kick Football, iOS, Android

football -

I've not had much time for proper gaming over the past week, being more preoccupied with attending (and subsequently recovering from) the stag do of a certain Wesley Yin-Poole. During a quiet(ish) moment of hangover recovery, the latter introduced me to PikPok's Flick Kick Football. [virgin]My mate[/virgin]Wez and his brother were notching up scores in the early 70s; predictably, I struggled to manage more than four or five goals in a row. Given my utter lack of coherence when it comes to kicking a real ball, I can only conclude that Flick Kick Football is a devastatingly accurate simulation of how I would fare in a real-world free kick situation.

TLDR: I am football fail.

Martin Gaston, Previews Editor - Saints Row: The Third, PS3

If a picture says a thousand words, then imagine this landscape in your mind: a coarse gang war has resulted in a mansion house party succumbing to attack from an army of gun-toting strippers, and the only possible avenue for retaliation is to pick one of the barely-clothed exotic dancers and use her as a human shield. And you're wearing a gimp suit with no trousers. And your guns fire explosive bullets. And underneath your gimp mask you're wearing evil clown makeup. And you can fly a helicopter. And you just blew up a group of enemies on the balcony with a predator missile. And your car is a stolen police vehicle painted pink and fitted with nitrous.

I think that picture, all things considered, is even more fun than being tied up and spanked.

Good news, everyone! One week to go in SWG and I can finally start playing games that were made in this decade. If you've been following my weekly playthrough you'll be familiar with the lonely, bizarre experience of playing a nearly dead MMO. I've spent days travelling to different areas to find another player on my server to no avail – until the other night! Finally, three weeks in to my SWG experience and I found someone dancing alone in Mos Eisley. Talk about a visual metaphor. Highlight of the game so far anyway. Stay tuned next week when I stay up until roughly 5AM to see how the game dies.

New stuff to check out

Skyrim still for me - 95 hours and counting and the end is still nowhere in sight (thank God as I don't want it to end!)

Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land for me this last week. Skyrim should really be getting a look in, but Christmas preparations are getting in the way.

I'm kinda biased but I rate Two Worlds II a couple of notches above Skyrim. Skyrim is about 20 times bigger in terms of quests but lacks Two Worlds' unique humour.

I still can't get over how amazing the world looks in this game, the plants, the animals, the lighting, the waters... Everything is just so detailed. How does Skyrim compare I wonder. Heh, guess I'll get round to playing Skyrim... someday.

Anyways the polearm looks badass, but, I've got most of my points invested into ranger already, so I'm gonna stick with archery. Btw I love the way my char does an evil little giggle everytime he kills something, heh.

Here's a little YouTube giving you a glimpse of how great Two Worlds II gets later on :)

YouTube Video

It also totally convinced me that Polearm was the way to go so I switched and never looked back.

Too lazy to learn how to fancy bold my game titles blah. Anyways I'm currently spending a ton of time on 'Two Worlds II' Spent like 30 hours thus far on that and I'm STILL pretty much at the start of chapter 1.

Was playing 'Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood' a while back, but kinda gotten bored so I've kinda abandoned it for nows. I do wanna know what happens in the story so I'll probably go back to it at some stage, but for now, blah.

Handheld wise I'm dropping in and out of 'Super Mario Land 3D', but 'Zen Pinball' is kinda distracting me atm.

Like everyone else...Skyrim-ing :)

I had my worries that I would click with the game prior to release, but boy does it suck you in. Haven't put a huge amount of time and I've avoided updating the current patch (I don't want my dragons flying backwards, thanks). Only level 12 at the moment and I've only just donemy first story quest. Level 46 Conjuration baby! Fly, my pretties, fly. I only wish I could summon flying beasties, that would be cool.

Got my cheap copy of Skyrim last week so just started playing that - before I knew it 4 hours had gone by and I had hardly done anything.

Also plenty of FIFA 12 career mode after 2 seasons of success at my beloved Spurs off to pastures new in Spain.

Had a friend over to stay whose recently gotten back from 2 and a half years travelling round the world, so most of the weekend has been us catching up and playing what few games have local co-op. This mainly included:

Halo: Reach
Gears of War 3
Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon.
Rock Band 3.

There was also more than a little talk of The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim :)

Dead Island - I'm rather enjoying this one. It's flaws are there for all to see but there is something in brutally slaughtering zombies that I seem to enjoy.

Borderlands - I hate skags. And spider ants. And those flying thingies. I hate all form of life on this game. I'm not enjoying it as much as many on this forum but something keeps pulling me back.

Mario Kart 7 - I've finally manged to play online. And 4 very convincing last places in a row made me realise why my 3DS was reluctant to let me on. I did better on my 2nd tournament and finished joint top on my 3rd.

Pullblox - wonderful little puzzle game on the 3DS.

Zen Pinball 3D - rather good and some impressive depth to the 3D.

As always Battlefield 3 has been getting the most play time. Cannot wait for the Back to Karkand on Tuesday.
Had a visit from a couple of mates one of which had bought Street Fighter with him. I really don't get on with fighting games but I didn't do to bad. Also got in some split screen CoD:MW3 which was a first, wasn't blown away with the maps at all.
