EA and Maxis appear to be on to a winner thanks to the Spore Creature Creator.
At time of writing Sporepedia, the online database of user created Spore creatures, reports that over one million creatures have now been lovingly - some less so - brought to life.
The total figure stands at 1,057,409 and is rapidly rising, with over 200 new creatures added to Sporepedia in the few minutes it's taken to write this article.
Spore is scheduled for release across Europe on September 5 for PC, Mac, Nintendo DS and mobile phones.
