Tom Orry, Editor - Cordy, iOS and Android

Playing Cordy on my new Samsung Galaxy S II brought about a mixture of emotions. On one hand it was a startling revelation of what's possible to do with Android devices if a developer puts in some effort, but on the other it makes most the titles on the Android Marketplace look like relics. Thankfully the game has now been released on the App Store, meaning millions of iPhone, iPod and iPad owners can now see just how great Cordy's platforming adventure is. I'm also pleased the game looks significantly nicer on my phone than on an iPhone 4 - that'll teach them for having a superior store, more games, better games and superior street cred.

Neon Kelly, Deputy Editor - From Dust, Xbox 360, PC

I've waited a year to play From Dust, and so when Jamin scored the game a 7 I was mildly worried. Now, having actually played it, I can understand his criticisms. It's a beautiful game, an original and largely successful one too, but there are moments when it can feel surprisingly stressful. Designer Eric Chahi was apparently inspired by his childhood experience building sandcastles at the beach, and there's certainly a similar vibe as you mould the world with your fingers, or at least your swirly snake thing. It can get frustrating when you try to protect your little villages, only to sea a large wave crash over the top of your futile barriers. Then again, that's what you get for picking a fight with Mother Nature.

For all your godly powers, there are occasions where it feels like you are impotent in the face of the elements, or that you succeed by chance rather than as a result of your own confident actions. Despite this, it's a mesmerising little thing, a genuine time-sink. And it's certainly one of the freshest games I've played all year.

Martin Gaston, Previews Editor - Demon's Souls, PS3

Yes, I am still playing Demon's Souls. This week I've finally plucked up enough courage to go into New Game+ and Renault Megane me it's Ford Focus difficult. Note: in the last sentence swear words were replaced by the names of popular hatchbacks.

Enemies do far more damage than before, and I've also reached the point where there are lots of Black Phantoms desperate to break into my game and stab me in the arse - particularly annoying when I'm trying to set the game's World Tendency, which is affected by your character dying.

And I'm trying to get the best ore, which requires me to hunt Crystal Lizards - little sods that run like the wind. You get four chances to kill them per game, and they don't necessarily drop the ore you're after despite being the only way in the game to get it. What happens if you miss out? You've got to start a whole new game. Little sods.

Basically, at the moment I go from absolutely loving the game to thinking it's a complete Toyota Aygo. Still can't stop playing it, though.

Jamin Smith, Staff Writer – Quiz Climber, iPhone

Quiz Climber screenshot

I'm part of a quiz team. We're called the Golden Ducks, and every Monday we engage in a fierce mental battle with nine other teams of middle-aged pub-goers. Our best result so far is third - we were like seven points behind first place, or something. Anyway, Quiz Climber on the iPhone will help us reach the top spot, I've decided. Chillingo's latest iOS offering is essentially a multiple choice question game. With each correct answer, your squirrelly character moves one branch up the tree. What's clever is that it connects to Facebook, so you can see your friends sitting on branches as you climb. Being the genius that I am, I currently sit on the highest branch out of all my friends who play the game! (I have one friend who plays the game).

Frustratingly, 'the winds of change' blow your squirrel off the tree at the end of each week, and the scores get reset. I correctly answered a stonking 42 questions in a row the other day, and now that score has gone. Still, it does give a great incentive to try and beat your friend(s) again each week.

My game of choice this week ... ok, not actually CHOICE ... I'll start again.

This week, my time has been taken up with that old standby for blokes everywhere, the one where you don't actually get to play anything because the TV or computer is seemingly permanently in use for something else, and even the DS is off-limits because your daughter is jumping all over you every time you manage to get 2 minutes to sit down and try to play it. I managed to check out the start of Shadows of the Damned, but will definitely be leaving that one until when the kiddies are in bed. (Which is, of course, the time that I am least likely to get screentime.)

Oh, and Let's Golf 3D on the bus to and from work. It really is a superb game, every 3DS owner should consider it.

For me mostly Cities XL 2011 and Arkham Asylum on PC. AA is a beautiful game. And for less than $8.00 is a proper bargain. A little bit of Brian Lara Cricket 2009 on the side.

On console mostly racers like GT5.

Tried the From Dust demo and I like it. I'm guessing on some scale I expect it to be a little restrictive but there's simply no question. Will also be buying this for PC.

Been playing:

Bastion: Quite nice really. I've only been able to play games recently in minute chunks but Bastion is perfect for this approach.

Marvel vs Capcom 3: Been playing a whole lot more of this since I've been playing friends during lunch-breaks at work. It seems to annoy my work colleagues a whole bunch when I use my 'ladie squad' to kick their ass. Usually Morrigan, Tron and Trish/Viper.

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom: My girlfriend and I are right near the end now. Just one more boss-battle for the win. It's been a charming little ride and it's a game full of promise. I'd love to see a fully realised sequel with the refinement it deserves.

From Dust - a spectacular experience that requires careful planning and consideration of every small aspect of the landscape.

Duke Nukem: Forever - Multiplayer is still a really fun experience. Can't wait for the free Multi DLC to hit.

Shadows of the Damned - Not quite sure what to think about the title. It's so strange - often funny - and very Japanese stylistically. Not quite at the level of Resi Evil games, but has the potential to be a real cult classic.

Deleted Tiny Tower, but started playing Plunderland on the iPhone. And Reiner Knizia's Labyrinth - both of which are highly recommended games.

I think that is it...

This week it's pretty much just been Black Ops multiplayer with my boyfriend and friends. We've changed the living room around so now we have one sofa facing one tv and can move more chairs to face the other TV behind the sofa. It's been quite fun playing together and not being able to glance at eachother's screens to see where they are.

I played a bit of Tiny Tower and it bored the *****e out of me. I can't be bothered to wait until some place has been built, wait to be able to stock the shops, wait for the stock, wait for it to sell, and then wait for another floor to be built. Yawwwwn....

I'd like to have some new games to play on my Iphone so I might try Cordy.
Apart from that I've been busy this weekend spending time with my boyfriend while he's off work for the week.
Next week will be back to the usual hours of gameplay so expect more then. :)

I've been playing TDU2's Casino DLC, no surprises there.

Also a bit of progression in Split/Second (one of those Demolition timed races kept me occupied for a few hours), an attempt to start Resonance of Fate (got the combat down pat now, but boy is it repetitive) and an attempt to progress further in Red Faction Guerrilla (I must be doing something wrong as I keep getting my butt handed to me in the Dust Sector).

And lots of Farm Town on Facebook.

A week of fail basically, I should have just fiddled with my swirly snake thing like Neon.

Next week should be more of the same as I'm in a determined mood to see how these games progress.

Been playing a mixture of games as of late. Currently going through Batman Arkham Asylum again on hard, and I have nearly completed it. Soon it shall be another 100% game added to my 'games' completed list on my 360.

Shall be adventuring back to EDF: Insect Armageddon once Batman has been done. As I need to start cracking on with the trooper class so it's rank 8, so then I can experience the other classes.

I know next week Brink will be getting free DLC, so I will be playing that on tuesday, or whenever the DLC is available to download. August 16th I do believe is the Test Drive Unlimited 2 DLC, so that's another game I will be replaying. Hopefully I can finish some old games before the games I want this year come out, because if I don't. The games that I would like to finish will just get pushed back, and August is the perfect time for me to do that.

Surprise, surprise. August only has two games of interest for me and they are; XenoBlade for the Wii and Deus Ex. Luckly I won't need to buy Deus Ex as me & my brother have finally come to the conclusion of helping each other out buying the anticipated games of this year. Of course Batman: Arkham City is the number 1 game I shall be purchasing!
