SimCity is an always connected experience
News
You'll have to be hooked up to the internet in order to play.
EA's all new SimCity game, set for release in 2013, will require an always on internet connection in order to play, EA has told Joystiq.
The EA rep says the connection is required because of the game's emphasis on multiplayer and the global economy that all players will influence.
In addition, EA revealed the game will be sold digitally on stores other than Origin, although specifics weren't revealed.

Rather than just contributing to a global economy, I hope I can share responsibility of my city with mah bros, which begs another question: does the city run while I'm not looking? Like the cat appearing on the other side of the room and all that. If I can manage transport and someone else is on disaster mitigation, that would be a really interesting meta game that could ruin friendships.
The video on simulation units really outlines how ambitious this game is, in the context of how I understand the genre, at least. Might be worth a cheeky PC upgrade. First in 4 years or so.
