Reef Entertainment has unveiled the first details of its in development Rambo The Video Game.

Developed by Teyon, the console and PC title is described as a "fixed-perspective, first-person shooter & action game" in which players step into the bloody boots of John Rambo.

The story and settings of the game are based on iconic sequences from the three original Rambo movies - First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rambo III - and the game will feature destructible terrain, cover-based shooting and rag doll physics.

There's no gameplay footage just yet, but Reef and Teyon have put together a short highlight reel of John Rambo from the second and third films.

More details are promised in the coming weeks.

There are ways and means around such a limitation. Mirrors, shadows, reflections in water, reactions to your presence, character muttering things to themselves, zoom-outs during particularly OTT standout shots/explosions...

All of those can be more expressive than staring at a rendering of a back, shoulders, buttocks and mullet.

I think that FPS is actually the wrong setup. FPS leaves you faceless and characterless (see Gordon Freeman). You're merely a field of view. This should have been 3rd person so that the player is constantly aware that they are playing as John Rambo. What's the point in Having this iconic, topless, bandana wearing, muscle-head hero if you're not going to visually be aware that you're playing as him.

Seems to me that they're attempting to sell an FPS off the back of a popular franchise. Rather than take a popular franchise and create a game that genuinely makes you feel like the protagonist. I mean, the film is named after the guy, right?

Game of the year material for me personally. I cannot wait for the gameplay footage at Gamescom. The trailer above and the concept art showing us areas where we will be torching up adds fuel to my excitement level. I really hope Reef nails the first part, where Rambo is put in jail and escapes into the mountain. Will be interesting when covering the first film. There was only one death in the first film, and I wonder if we will have a dark mine to go through and jumping on army trucks to ride into town in style.

Only downside is no Sly Stallone voice =[

So why don't you just get the console version then.

I loved Rambo movies so i really hope they don't butcher this one. I think the first stills look pretty decent though.
