Race Driver: GRID Features

For:PC  Also On: Xbox 360PS3DS Release Date: 29 May 2008

A look ahead to Friday's new releases.

Welcome to Heads-up, VideoGamer.com's weekly feature which gives you an at-a-glance run-down on the games you'll be able to buy or rent this weekend. Every Tuesday we'll pick out the best of the bunch, link to our reviews and previews and keep you in the video game loop so you have enough time to pre-order for Friday's post. Time to splash the cash.

Recommendation of the Week: Race Driver: GRID, Xbox 360, PS3, PC
This year appears a little quiet on the racing front. There's no sign of new games in the Forza, PGR and Need for Speed franchises, and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue has already been and gone, leaving Codemasters' Race Driver: GRID as the only real racing option for the summer and months that follow.

It's a good job then that GRID is one of the finest examples of the racing genre of recent times. It looks amazing, has a wealth of racing types and has online race options to match the best.

Historically the Race Driver franchise has certainly been skewed towards the simulation end of the market, but with GRID it's transformed into an arcade racer all fans of the genre can enjoy. Nothing highlights the change in style more than the game's Flashback feature, enabling players to rewind time following a crash or particularly poor section of racing.

Also out this week
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Xbox 360, PS3: With gamers perhaps becoming a little bored of the undeniably brilliant Call of Duty 4, Activision is back with another potential online hit. Released for PC last year, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a Battlefield type game which we praised for its accessibility - something which can't be said of the much more hardcore Battlefield series. Look out for our review of the console versions soon.
