A new Star Wars Battlefront game is coming next year, EA has revealed. That’s on top of the Star Wars Battlefront PlayStation VR ‘experience’ due for release during the publisher’s current financial year.

The new game was revealed by CFO Blake Jorgensen during EA’s earnings call last night, who said that it would feature “bigger and better worlds” from the new Star Wars movies, rather than the original films used in last year’s game.

An exact release window has yet to be confirmed, but you should probably expect to see it land during the October/November 2017 period.

“We’ll most likely have at least one Star Wars title a year over the next three to four years,” Jorgensen said. “Next year we will see Star Wars Battlefront back with bigger and better worlds because we now have the new movies to work off of, not just the historical movies that we used before.”

Meanwhile, Visceral/Motive’s Star Wars action game will “most likely” arrive in 2018, Jorgensen says, although it isn’t yet clear when EA plans to release the Star Wars game currently in development at Respawn.

“We also are working on a Star Wars action game that part of the Motive team is working on as well as the Visceral team, and that’s most likely the following the year,” he continued. “And as we’ve announced, we’re working with our partners Respawn to work on another Star Wars game. They’re very excited about that. They were asking us to include them in the franchise and we felt that they could add a huge amount to a new title there.”

EA’s 2017 slate so far, then, appears to be kicking off with Mass Effect Andromeda and a new NBA Live early in the year, with a new Need For Speed and Star Wars Battlefront to follow up later.

Star Wars Battlefront launched on PS4, Xbox One and PC last November, and has so far shipped 14 million units.
