THQ has announced that it has been named interactive game licensee for Columbia Picture's CGI feature Monster House.

Monster House is a CGI movie from executive producers Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg. The film tells the story of three children who must battle it out with a House that is literally a monster and is eating everything and anything that comes within its sight. With a strong cast including Steve Buscemi, Nick Cannon, and Maggie Gyllenhaal, the film looks set to be one next summer's big hits when it opens on July 21, 2006.

THQ has secured the license for the movie and has the rights to develop games based on the property for videogame consoles and select handheld systems. In the videogame players will get to explore the house room by room just as in the film, but also experience all new adventures that have been inspired by events of the movie. The game is due for release to coincide with that of the movie.

"THQ is excited to work with Sony Pictures Entertainment, one of the premiere movie studios in Los Angeles, to bring Monster House to the interactive world," said Germaine Gioia, vice president, licensing, THQ. "We look forward to creating a fun and humorous game that will enable the moviegoers to extend their experience beyond the movie theatre."
