Who could have predicted it? Master Chief will return to the Halo franchise at some point in the future.

That's according to 343 Industries' big cheese Frank O'Connor, who was speaking at Comic-Con over the weekend.

Halo 3 finished with Master Chief in cryosleep as his ship approached a mysterious planet, but since then his story has taken a back seat while the Halo universe expanded in other directions.

"We'd have to be the world's biggest a**holes not to follow through," O'Connor said. "We certainly haven't seen the last of Master Chief."

No one really expected Halo 3 to be the end of Master Chief, but it's good to have his return on record.

Halo: Reach will be out September 14.

He's a faceless, emotionless cipher with no personality who follows instructions and is rewarded by people cheering and calling him awesome. He's living the child dream.

As a character Master Chief is 10 years old. That's kinda weird...

I think they'll do something akin to what G-man did to Gordon at the end of Half Life 1 by just waking him up when he's needed again. They'll wake up 117 a few hundred years in the future when stuff is messed up again, and he'll have to do stuff in new armour and save the world again.

lol, I just saw the Legendary ending for Halo 3 and, well,
Show Spoiler yeh, they'll wake him when they need him. It's essentially a means for 117 and Cortana to wake up at any point in time and be like "yo let's wreck *****"
