Kroeger: Rock bands dwindling because of band games

Asks budding artists to put down 'Guitar Hero' and learn to play a real instrument.

Speaking to MTV, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger has revealed he thinks young wannabe rock stars are turning to virtual band games rather than learning to play the real thing.

"I feel like there's not enough rock bands out there, especially when we go on the road," said Kroeger. "It's tough to find other bands out there, because either they're making a record, or they just got done touring. So kids: Start rock bands. Set down the 'Guitar Hero,' learn how to play an actual guitar and start a band, because it's hard to find more bands to put a solid rock-and-roll package together, to get out there. It's getting harder and harder, but I think we've done it."

black locust	0 0 In response to Article » Go to 's original post goooooo C.H.U.D! oh i mean chad! i don't want to hurt his feelings but if we all go out and learn to play real instruments and join real bands we will probably not tour with Nicklecreekback whatever they are called because we will be busy touring and cutting records. if he needs touring support why doesn't he log onto the internerd and get a myspace account and see just how many "rock bands" are out there. plus its much less embarrassing to play 30 seconds to mars in the privacy of my own home rather than in front of a crowded auditorium of nickleback d-bags. ya heard. Brady	0 0 In response to Article » Go to 's original post I hold very true to the idea that Guitar Hero and/or Rock Band actually inspire people to learn the real thing. I played guitar before I ever picked up Guitar Hero (eventually Rock Band because Harmonix rocks) but there have been numerous cases where I have been inspired to go practice my real guitar after a session of GH or RB. I have learned to play drums because of Rock Band. I have two friends that have started to learn guitar because of Guitar Hero. Also, Nickelback, learn how to play your own instruments before you complain about other people not learning instruements. Reply

I think they're great for teaching kids the fundamentals of music (especially drumming).And if you can play the guitar hero, you pretty much have all the skill you'll ever need to play bass in most bands ;) Reply
