Guild Wars 2 has sold more than three million copies in its first nine months of availability in Europe and North America, making it the "all-time fastest-selling MMORPG," ArenaNet has said.

"After triangulating against multiple data sources, it's clear that Guild Wars 2 is the fastest-selling Western MMO of all time based on the first nine months of availability," said analyst David Cole of DFC Intelligence. "This puts Guild Wars 2 in an impressive position when they release in China, where we’ve seen similar franchises really take off."

ArenaNet hasn't included the sales of Blizzard's World of Warcraft's expansions, with Cataclysm shifting a staggering 3.3 million copies in just 24 hours back in December 2010. Previously, Wrath of the Lich King managed 2.8 million in just 24 hours.

A free trial has also been announced, with new players able to create an account and play from 08:00 BST Friday, August 23 to 07:59 BST Monday, August 26.

It is exceptional, I only stopped playing because I was looking for more PvP and it's woefully lacking in that department compared to it's predecessor.

I've also been playing SWTOR, though i only have two characters over 30 so far and once I get to 55 and finish the personal stories i'm unlikely to do anything else.

I'm REALLY tempted to get Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn, looks amazing and a FF MMO is a dream for me given I didn't have the funds around the FF11 and the original FF14. Still not swimming in money but can probably manage 7 or 8 quid a month :) PLus the game is only 15 quid to buy atm.

I've been playing SWTOR mostly but left after I got my 9th lvl55...

Went back to GW2 and started fresh a few nights ago. Should be fun seeing more people on it :D

Its always nice to have an MMO without a sub. Can return at your leisure!

A three day free trial is an awesome idea. The client itself is down to now sub £34.99 so for anyone not convinced they should really give the trial a go. Best MMO by far at present, shame I haven't got time for MMOs currently.
